Post by: lebaron on November 15, 2013, 09:49:01 AM
Anyone know what this is and what it was used for. Was there a number ever assigned to it.

Substitute for a ratchet.

Patent number not stamped on the tool indicates it was made & sold prior to the number being issued to the patent holder.

Lebaron,  take a look at a site called "collecting snap-on".  Frank has done a great job.  It will answer most of your questions.  Also if you search on this site you will find an earlier thread on this same tool.  I posted a picture of one I have.  Mine is a bit different than yours, it is a little longer and has less "teeth".  If I remember correctly, there are three different variations.

Patent no. Is 1,443,413, issued Jan. 30, 1923.
