10-4
Most are sleeve bearings, where the steel shaft runs against the bronze bushing with oil.
When the bearings run dry/wear out, the bronze goes first (being softer). The shaft being steel just wears right thru it, till it hits the steel bearing body. Then it starts grinding. Many times you can't remove and replace the shaft easy, as it's rusted in place (like on an evap cooler).
That's where the above pillow block bearing comes it. You don't need to replace the shaft to get a smooth surface for this bearing to ride on. You cut the old bearing off, file the shaft down until the new ball bearing pillow block will slide over it, and then you secure it to the shaft with a set screw. It gets you thru a few more seasons before it goes, and then you can sell a new blower assy or evap cooler.
