I've had this set for a long time and got curious to what went in the empty hole like this guys on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CRAFTSMAN-V-3-8-drive-SOCKET-WRENCH-SET-in-PERMANEX-CASE-QUALITY-VINTAGE-USA-/151018845806?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23296cb66e
I had moved the 13/16 plug socket to that hole and placed a 5/8 plug socket in its hole.
So my question is, was there something in this hole when it was brand new?
Bet the ebay seller would like to know too.

Just a guess but I don't think the set had a 5/8 spark plug socket. Probably just the 13/16 because that was the common size into the late 1990's.
What's that straight rod just below the long extension?
Could what's missing be something that was used with the straight rod?

straight rod was used with the flex handle

If it had a spark plug socket, bet it had a guage also.....

I put the 5/8 in there just to fill the empty hole, thought something was missing.
I never knew what that 6" bar was for but the ebay guy says its a cross bar for breaker bar.
It has the little ball on the end like a ratchet does.

I don't think anything is missing, at least according to the Crafty catalogs.
I think that little depression is to brace that horizontal surface thats filled with heavy tools.

OK thanks, I would of swore something was missing.

It says - 18 piece Socket Wrench Set.
There's only 17 things in there if that hole is left empty.
Unless they count the plastic case in the 18 items.
