Title: Interesting British spanner

This little bicycle wrench(4 1/4 in.) oal is of interest for several reasons.  It was patented rather late in the game for this configuration, at least by US standards.  Oct. 22, 1941 by a Mr. P. Richartz in Great Britain.  The patent number is 553540.  It was produced by Richards Bros. & Sons Ltd. of Sheffield England.

The patent was for the method of manufacture.  Rather than use a one piece body and moveable jaw, they used 4 laminations for the moveable portion, and at least that many to make the body.  These parts were then riveted together and after that spot welded.  This according to the patent verbiage.

This is a very well made and finished wrench.  It's hard to see the rivets.

I really liked the "Tent" trademark.
