Title: a Bernard and a Sargent Whatsit
Post by: stanley62 on August 10, 2013, 02:01:45 PM
Got a Sargent and a Bernard of these critters for a buck each.  What are they?

These are wire cutters, and work well on a heavy gauge wire. When I was a kid, and had a paper route, the bundles came wired together. This was the perfect tool for cutting those wires.

I thought they looked too soft for wirecutters and there are 2 openings to "cut" with.

They won't work on thin wire, as in electrical wire. Think in terms of binding wire, or fence wire - heavier gauge stuff.

Have the Sargents but not the Bernards. Only thing in my Bernard literature is Lodi 315's which should be marked. Don't know why they are not shown.

The catalog photo of 315 in my 1940's cat seems to show a washer around the pivot pin with the stamping on that. hard to tell for certain from the fuzzy pic tho....

Jimwrench, watch the mail.  You may find that you have a Bernard's to add to your "wall of Bernard's" very soon.
