Title: New to the forum
Post by: zeet on June 09, 2013, 07:41:00 PM
I'm new to the board and thought I'd write a little note to introduce myself and say hi...

Thirty-some years ago I found a 1/2 drive Plomb ratchet under the gas tank of a '42 Ford truck I was restoring. It looked like a nice tool so I cleaned it up a bit and put it back into service... The next weekend I found a couple sockets to match the ratchet at a local swap meet.

I've never stopped adding to the set... I'd guess I now have 300 + pieces in my working-set (though I'm always trying to fill "holes" in sets) and I have a supply of "extras" that ebbs and flows as I buy, sell, and swap. That's actually what brought me here... "Googling" to find a piece I'd like to replace (If anybody's a Plomb guy, it's a 4710 deep 1/4 six-point socket)

In response to oldtools I dug out most of my Plomb set and took some photos but I'm having a devil of a time reducing them to less than 250 kb. Hopefully, this one will post

Definitely not! Excellent stuff!

I was not aware those vintage Plomb kits included those screwdriver bits. ;)

HA!...You're right, they didn't include Torx, or Allens, but these are the boxes I use... I just pulled 'em out of the truck, layed 'em out and opened 'em up

Very nice assembly of tools.  I appreciate you taking the time to photograph and post them.  I have the occasion to come across a few from time to time.  I'll put you third in line (behind dimwittedmoose and FrankLee) for any I find; no cost to you.

Your post definitely motivates me to get out more.

Thanks OilyRascal, I appreciate that! I'll probably be doing some posting in the "Buy, Sell, Swap" board soon... There are a couple tools I'd like to find and I have a box of "extras" I like to use for swapping purposes.

Go get 'em! :^)

zeet, you said that you pulled the tools out of the truck for a photograph.
A. What is the truck? Anyone that uses cool old tools probably has a cool old truck.
B. What does it do for a living?
C. Are the Plombs your user tools?

Hi Johnsironsanctuary,

In response to your questions;
The current truck is a '77 GMC P-30 with an aluminum Grumman Step-Van body... Basically a motorized toolbox you can stand up in.
I used it primarily for on-site auto/tractor repair and maintenance on ranches here in southern California but nowadays I earn the bulk of my income from another industry entirely.
...and yes, the Plombs are my user tools, though of course I've had to supplement them with other tools to cover the metric side of things.

IE: Bread Truck ;P

Those make great work-out-of trucks tho :)

Sure does! I've had quite a few other trucks over the years with a variety of bed configurations...  but this one really suits my needs.

One of the biggest plumbers in the Milwaukee area is still running P 30s from the sixties and they still look good. (refer to the post about 200 year old hammers)
