Title: Thorsen wrenches (2032 and 2038)
Post by: Paladin on March 29, 2013, 11:17:23 PM
Hey all- I'm trying to complete a set of SAE Thorsen's. I gave up for a while, but hopefully someone has these two wrenches. The two I'm looking for are the Thorsen 2032 (1" combo) and Thorsen 2038 (1-3/16" combo). Anyone have them that you could part with? Thanks!

Post a picture of your incomplete set.  I could likely help you with the 2032 depending on vintage and style.  Good luck with the 2038 in any style.  PM for details on the 2032 after I can get a pic or description on the style.

This set isn't mine, but this is the style Thorsen I'm looking for:

Those are in nice condition for sure.  The 2032 and 2038 both came in "short" and "long" patterns.  I assume you're seeking the long pattern but it should certainly be made clear.

I generally prefer long pattern, but I think the ones I have are standard length. For example, the 15/16" is about 12" long, if that tells you anything about which pattern they are. Thanks for your help- Steve

Pardon my ignorance, but why is a set numbered with even numbers. What were odd numbers used for?

The last 2 digits are the wrench size in 32nt's

IMO "Long" was used synonymously with "Standard" with these wrenches.  The 15/16" at 12" long would be a long pattern wrench.

Thanks for your help Oily! So, I need a long-pattern 2032. Hopefully one turns up here!

Just trying price some old tools on line and came across your post. I have the 2032 wrench you still may need. It is used but in really good shape. Hope this helps.
