Title: "made in usa, drop forged" wrenches with a number
Post by: bird on July 08, 2011, 02:23:05 AM
I have a bunch of wrenches that are made in usa, drop forged, and then a number ranging from 2-66. What's the story on the numbering system and what's the deal on the wrenches?
cheers, bird

My new version  of the "in progress" cross referenced  Industry Standard (Williams) Comparative Drop-Forged Wrench Numbers and Sizes Chart  is here"

If you mean a doe with "DROP FORGED" on one side and "MADE IN USA" on the flip with a small number from 1 to 91+, then it is probably VLCHEK. A picture would be helpful.

Yep, probably Vlchek as Eddie said.

Are these the same you posted for sale back on the old forum??? I'm still interested in them if you still have those I wrote you about.

Can you put up a picture of the Vlchecks you are referring to, eddie?

Sorry, they're in a box 160 miles away. They are more common than dirt. I think some were used in Chevy tool kits. I have wrenches with forged numbers from 1 to 91 but don't know what they mean. It would be interesting to know whether the same number appears on different size wrenches.

I'm sure someone can post a picture.

#5) Uncertain, prob like #1
#6) Vlchek 'ChromeMoly series, #727, also known unmarked
#7) Vlchek , typical unmarked toolkit wrench
#8) Numbered ford type wrench (mdf)
#9) Billings (late carbon steel)
#10) Herbrand, Fordson marked

Probably not news to anyone here, but, watch for the shield marking on those vlchecks; sometimes very hard to see the remnants of them but they are often there.

I always look for an * on wrenches. Not always present, but when it is, it's a dead giveaway for VLchek.
I've found that most buyers skip right over them because there's no name, and I snag 'em for cheap$$$.

Here's two with the Vlchek shield. They also came without.
