Wright started in the late 1920's making quality tools. Sometime after WW II they started making only socket tools. They made sockets for Billings and Crescent among others, under contract. They are still in business today and take pride in selling only tools made in the USA. Definetly a stellar tool company.

Absolutely first rate. Wright is a highly-respected industrial brand.

I don't know how they are rated in the trades, but in my book, they are 1st class.  I especially like their ratchets and flat wrenches.  Their sockets are not bad either.

Also worth knowing, Wright made contract tools for the U.S. government and companies like International Harvester and Montgomery Wards, just to name a few.  Their contract production tools are every bit as good as their Wright branded tools.

My step dad gave me a set of Wright's in 1958 or 59.  I stilll have them and use them.  In my opinion, and it's only my opinion, they are as good as Snap On.

Out standing tools. They took the beating of working on heavy equipment with no complaints. I have ratchets we used for 40 years on the farm that work as good as ever.

Chopper1,

Could you post a photo or two of your 1958/1959 wright tool set. I'm especially interested the ratchets, breaker bars, and sockets.

They are still making some tools for the mechanics working in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gary,
I'm proving to myself that my memory isn't what it use to be, I got them later than I remembered.  Before becoming involved with tool sites I never paid attention to what was stamped on the tools.  The set has a date code of "63" and not the letter code of "C".  According to AA 1961 should have been the last year for showing the numerical date code.  If you still would like pics I can get them tomorrow or over the weekend.

Here's a Wright 1/2 drive N-11 tee that I just got today. I don't see a date code but I think maybe fairly early since the logo has
"Barberton-O-USA" on it. It is hard to photograph completely because of the way it is stamped.

I picked up a set of 1/2 dr Wright's off eBay only because all my Wright tools were 3/8 dr.
The pic's with the white background are from the auction and the black backgrounds are my pics.
I've never seen a Wright ratchet of this design before and it isn't shown on AA.  Also in the set was
a rare 12 pt 57/64 spark plug socket.  The breaker bar is a Speedmaster, made by Wright.
All the 'Wright' pieces except the SP socket are dated -55, the SP socket is dated 9+.

The Wright tootsie roll (and the regular handle of the same make),  are my all time second favorite ratchet.
Williams (the older patterns) gets first of all in my book, but not by much!!
Wright is tight on their heels!!

These two pictures are taken from either side of the handle  of my Wright 10-inch easy-adjust monkey wrench. The pictures show the wrench was made by Wright Wrench Company of Tacoma, Washington and its patent date was March, 1904. The company's logo is shown in the second photograph.  Is this the same Wright company you guys are talking about?

I doubt it.  Wright Tool that made the wrench sets is and was manufactured in Barberton, Ohio.

That quick adjust was made by  Wright Wrench and Forging Co. of Tacoma,Wa and Canton,Oh. Mar 15,1904 patent by Lewis Ash and Hiram Steward. Ken Cope has a good writeup on the west coast company.
