Strange socket with an unusual drive hole. The other end is like an 11/16" 6 point. No markings on the barrel, just a thin line of texturing.
Anyone have a ratchet that fits this socket???

I don't know why you would want to, but it looks like it fits on a motor shaft with flats.

Somewhere on the net I saw a picture of a wrench that looked like the end with the flat sides. It was listed as being for the main bearing bolts on a model T Ford. Could it be a hex drive?

shock absorber socket?

I have seen speed wrench type jack handles with that two sided shaft, for screw type jacks, so I suppose that a lug nut socket like this would go onto the handle for a lug wrench.

Lots of offerings on this thing, but no consensus. The fact that there's no logo anywere is really strange and the plating that was on it doesn't appear to be that old....

What size is the oval? It certainly looks like a shock stud socket to me. I know SnapOn made 3 sizes of them for 3/8 square drive. Maybe this pre-dates those. The hex drive in 11/16 is the problem with this idea.

11/16 is a lug nut size however, I like Mel's idea, lug nut socket included with a car jack, and would explain little usage or wear, been living in a trunk most of it's life...
The only flaw....Never seen one .....

Walden-Worcester Oval-Drive 5828 Socket
During the mid 1920s Walden received a patent for a configurable type of socket wrench, with the sockets secured to the handle by set-screws instead of being permanently mounted. This allowed a shop to make up its own special-use socket wrenches, combining the socket sizes most commonly used together. The design was covered by patent #1,596,708, issued to F.H. Bellows in 1926.
The idea seems not to have caught on though, as these tools appear to be very rare. However, we were able to acquire one of the special sockets used with these wrenches.

Now, you're on to somethin' there Mel. Those sockets are consistent not only with the drive hole, but the texture ring on the barrel. I wonder if AA has one in his collection??? lol
Thanks

That's where Mel's info came from.

I had never seen that AA site before, there is a lot of info there. Surprising what a little goggling will get you.

Goggling is all very well. Just avoid leering; it'll get you in trouble every time.

How about this pair I found last weekend?
A 9/16 and a 7/8 both 6 point with just MADE IN USA on each.
