There is a Beryllium adjustable on the bay right now, strangest combination I have seen. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ampco-Nonsparking-corrosion-resistant-nonsparking-Beryllium-free-Nut-Wrench-/350634040850?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51a36ade12)

Quite nice example

John , thanks for the link.Very interesting wrench

Cool Tool! I wonder if that is green paint or green corrosion?

Nice wrench it looks like corrosion (verdigris) to me, all copper and bronzes can corrode under the right conditions, same as Ferris tools usually neglect is the problem!! I note that this is ampco (aluminum?) bronze and thus contains no beryllium! I thought that bronze alloys had largely replaced beryllium copper for making non-sparking tools.

Ampco made several different alloys including aluminum bronze, beryllium copper, and monel metal (high nickel alloy). When they are not marked with the alloy, I assume they could have Be in them, and do not do any buffing, polishing, etc. I have an Ampco catalog, and will try to post the list of alloys sometime.

wvtools,
If you can scan the catalog at 300 dpi and post it to Photobucket or a similar site, LG will convert it to a pdf for us as his time permits. Meanwhile, if you post a link to that site, we can all see it if not save it like I did in a post about 'The Carpenter's Toolchest'. Sounds like one we would all like to see.

It would be good to see that Ampco catalogue. I'm just going from my Two McM/Carr (#89&82) catalogues and from what I read on the Ampco site. My understanding at this point is that the bronzes contain no beryllium, that it is only added to copper (5%?) and still looks copper. Beryllium dust or vapour it apparently pretty nasty and like Asbestos doesn't reveal it's nasty work (lungs) till years latter. So it is something we need to get squared away and be clear about.
