Title: 1943 Delta 6 inch belt sander
Post by: lzenglish on June 22, 2011, 10:40:36 PM: I found this Old Delta Heavy Duty Belt Sander at an estate sale last week. It was sold to me by the original owner's son, who is a retired Carpenter/Woodworker, for 30 bucks. In researching the date code, I found it to be built in 1943. The motor is completrly sealed, and is about half the size of a small car motor, (just kidding, but it is a whopper)! I was surprised to also find it runs like a top, and the belts, (6"x48") are still available today, for about 10-15 bucks each. He also gave me the miter gage attachment which is not shown in the picture. The last picture shown, is what I believe it looked like when it was new, back in "43". This one will be a user, with no plans to restore it in any way, other than a good cleaning.

It's a tilting table. The table moves to 45 degrees one direction but I can't quite make out how far in the other.

Although I have not triet it yet, the manual says the sanding head will lay down level in one direction only, and the bed will also tilt, but I'm not sure how far yet, as I have been too busy to try it. The only thing it is missing is the small miter bed, or table, that would screw onto the side of it. From the manual, it looks like it is about 4 inches tall, and extends the full lenght of the sander. I have seen parts for this model sold on the internet, so maybe I can pick one up later.

Post by: lzenglish on June 23, 2011, 09:13:10 AM: I checked the table adjustment, and found it to be 45 degrees in one direction, and 20 degrees in the other. It looks like I would need to remove 2 mounting screws to get the sander to lay down in the horizontal position, then replace them.
