I'll try again , the page expired before I could post.I bought two valve compressors from the same tool vender. He said the Hook belongs to the cast iron serpentine tool.
It says H. D. Smith on it , but works on the tool. Is this an early version?
The other valve tool says H. D. Smith perfect handle , and the hook matches the photos I've seen.
I'll try and duplicate the hook for the one without , just wondering if it's possible they both used the same hook?
Photos won't load today , comes up server error.
I tried three times.
I'll try again later.

The parts in the first picture belong together. That assembly is a valve spring compressor. I think it was for a Model A.
I've seen the second item somewhere but can't remember where. It is not in the H.D. Smith catalog I have. It seems to me that it was for tightening wire, but not sure.

Somewhere I saw a picture of the other lifter but I don't find it now.

I suppose it is possible, I have seen the serpentine tool various places, including at least one of Bus's auction pages, I have *never* seen a hook with it....

I don't think you can get much more definitive that the hook belongs to the HD Smith than the picture in the HD Smith catalog page in Papaw's post.
I remember seeing the other one not too long ago, but I got CRAFT at the moment (Can't Remember a Flippin' Thing)

I've never seen a hook with that lifter. I wonder what it looks like. It should be very similar to the three I have that go with H D Smith.

Papaw, your photo is the one I remembered when I saw these pieces , that's why I questioned the fellow about being with the correct tool. We worked a deal that allowed me to buy both,
and have a little mystery to solve.

I see no reason the chain and hook won't work, its just that I've never seen the original chain and hook.

wow, I think I have a similar "set" of wrench, chain, ect. I'm not sure how I ended up with it.... but, looks a lot like what you folks are talking about.
cheers,
bird.
