Title: Missing an 8-32 thumb screw for an old Stevens spoke wrench
Post by: Wrenchmensch on June 13, 2011, 12:34:41 PM
I need an 8-32 thumbscrew for an old Stevens spoke wrench. The screw has a 25/32" long threaded shaft and a head that ranges from 15/32" to 1/2". The picture shows what these things look like.

I have a little plastic bin full of thumb screws and other knobs. I can dig thru it and see if I have something that might work.
Can you tell me the thread diameter and pitch? Like 8-32 or something?

Yep! Thanks!

The thread is an 8-32 cut, and the diameter is 1/8". The shaft length is 25/32" +/- 1/32", and the head diameter is 1/2" +/-.

Might there be a thumb screw for a Union Tool Co. protractor?  The kind that comes on a combination square?  Mine's missing
one thumb screw and washer.  Come to think of it, I have a pair of dividers missing the adjustment nut, and another pair missing
the thumb screw that secures the arm...

Bob, you can have the Stevens spoke wrench I bought if you don't find a correct screw, the one on this wrench doesn't look original though, and has solder or something on the top.

Papaw, you probably have a brass light fixture nut soldered to a screw...; P

Well, I dug thru my knobs bin, and found something that might work. It's on it's way to ya!

Thanks, all your offers are great!  I think I'll hold off a while though, and maybe I can pirate a thumb screw from a damaged Dudly spoke wrench in the future.

Alright Mensch
Take out a penknife and cut your finger.  Dip a pen and write this:
"I hereby bequeath my soul to..."

Any idea how deep I had to dig for this?
Its an inch long, cut it any length you like

My niece’s boyfriend is a machinist, I had him make this thumb screw for you. If it to your liking I will it will be in the mail in a day or two…
