Ok, Papaw, I'm willing to reveal my ignorance for all to see.

What is a "Coe's" wrench...of which this one is a "baby" version?

Is that a brand, or a type/style, etc?

Only one of the most prolific makers of monkey wrenches!

The little one is a baby compared to Coes' 72" model!

I have something just shy of a couple of dozen monkey wrenches, and under the rust and dust on most of them, is the very faint and tiny Coes stamp.   However the last one I bought, has a large fancy COES  in flowing script!  Still looking for that small size.

It seems every Coes wrench I come across in the wild is priced out of my comfort zone.  I've yet to find one less than $25 so I still do not have the pleasure of owning one, much less a baby one.  Having said that, I would pay $25 for that 72" version :)

They only made maybe 5 or 6 of those, and I'm not sure how many have been found. Bus Haury will know.

Herb Page had the only one that I know of, he sold his collection to Don Ervin from Maine a few years ago. Herb Mr Coes of the wrench world. He wrote a book on Coes wrenches "The Brothers Coes And Their Legacy Of Wrenches" copyright 2004. Herb valued the 72 inch version at $12,500.00 in his book. According to Herb the stylized logo was developed around 1920 and only used on a few model wrenches. It was used on the later Key Model wrenches and some other later production wrenches.

I found a couple of Baby Coes wrenches some years ago. One cost $68 and the other $125. Several years before I bought these, Baby Coes wrenches were going for $400 and up. Both of mine were bought in antique store settings, the cheaper one from someone not in touch with the world of wrenches. The more expensive one was bought from a tool dealer in an "open- weekends only" kind of multiple dealer store. Perhaps one of the Maine tool dealers like Liberty Tool or Fairfield Antiques might have one or two of these for sale.

Wow! During my tool-buying searches I have found and bought many old Monkey wrenches, but the only brand name I ever knew to keep my eye out for was "Winchester." (I've had one of those, and sold it 30 years ago for $25, which seemed like a lot of money back then.)

I think I have kept some of the monkey wrenches for myself. Now I'll have to dig them out and check brand names. (Wonder if I have any "baby" monkey wrenches?)

Les,

As I understand the 4-inch club rules, one has to produce a picture of 10 similar tools with descriptions of each one. It's amounts to a test of personal will, e.g. energy, at  least for me, to get all that together.

I guess we were all a sleep, a baby Coes just sold for $16 and change on ebay. a little rough and the handle was cracked but still a steal.
