Any Ideas on what this tool is? Handle is cast iron. Thanks
-
WAG only- Fence stretcher?
-
Does not seem sturdy enough for a fence stretcher, but good guess.
-
Trigger guard?
-
Well- It is NOT a nutcracker!
-
OK - Handle is cast - What is the rest made of?
I'm looking at it thinking a early gun rack - would have been two pieces - the "handle" held the gun, the "tool end" maybe went over something and locked into place?
Just another wag!
-
Handle is cast and the hook and bottom plate are steel (putty knife thick).
-
Like John said I say part of a rifle=trigger guard
-
I too vote trigger guard.

After cleaning, found stamped "EYELET Tool Co Boston MS"

A picture is worth a thousand words....
(Official journal of the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators and Paperhangers of America, Volume 19 , 1905)

Wow-that's it! Never would have guessed. Thanks a lot!

The depth of knowldge on this site amazes me.

I am amazed that a clever, balanced, well thought out, cost effective tool like that is not in every toolbox today, like a screwdriver.
-
The scary thing is, it's the "improved" combination tool...
Kinda makes ya wonder about how the uninproved one worked.....
"Unlike our last model, this one doesn't dump gallon buckets of white paint on passing bystanders"
-
The "unimproved one" must be a real collectors item. Probably at least 75 cents at auction, compared to the 50 cents I spent for the 1905 version!

Where else can you buy this kind of entertainment for 50 cents :)
