I had emailed Dave to ask when they would be ready for sale. He sent me to the auction. I responded that I was disappointed that it was so pricey, but that I was definitly going to start saving up.
This is his response..
I have worked about 2500 hours on this and also have about $15,000 invested in it. If you were to get all the catalogs I did (239) and got them free, they would still cost you around $850 to $950 in postage alone. Each thick catalog had to be taken apart to take out the relevant Craftsman and other pages of interest. Plus I meticulously went through it page by page and restored each page. Some pages took a few days each to restore. I was originally selling each decade on a CD for $25 and these two DVDs have 10 decades on them. So I have cut that price in half to $12.50 per decade x 10. I would have much rather someone else have spent the thousands of dollars and 2500 hours so I could just pay $125 and walk away without the debt. I'm even adding more to it as time goes by...2010, 2011 ,2012 and possibly more catalogs and photos, but the price will still be the same. I spent $1000 for Adobe Creative Suite when I started, and last year updated to a new computer and had to update the Adobe system again. I got the student edition (2 DVDs) for about another $1000 with shipping and tax. The buyer is getting the best deal. I paid a lot of money I may not see again. On this initial low production run, the DVDs cost me $12 each to have produced and Ebay is charging me about another $10 each, then Paypal takes a cut. I didn't even know how to use any of the programs or programming when I started, so I had a lot of frustrating learning to do. I took one for the tool collectors team. You will see how absolutely professional it is done and I assure you, you will think the money is very well spent.

I was going to say, "Give it time" but then I checked the auction and found that he pulled it early. This is nothing new for him. I was high bidder on 3 or 4 of his auctions and he pulled them all early, "the item is no longer available". They appeared a few weeks later at triple the old starting bid. He's done this with tools also, it kind of pisses one off :(
