Title: Mack Truck wrenches made by Williams
Post by: Wrenchmensch on June 01, 2011, 04:00:24 PM
These Williams wrenches are circa 1917 editions, and each one is stamped with the Mack truck logo.  The (Williams) numbers, from top down, are 75, 79S, 83A, 81A.  American wrenches for a great American product!

Does anybody else have a numbered Mack S-wrench beyond these?

I had one I posted on the old site, but I've sold it since.

Didn't Mack make automobiles, also?

I did some checking, and it appears that the Reo Motorcar Co. of Lansing, Michigan made a Mack Jr. truck in 1936-37.  Mack trucks have been made since 1911.  The names of the company over the years are: International Motor Co. (1911-36), Mack Manufacturing Corp. (1937-1956), and Mack Trucks, Inc. (1956 to date).  I could find no record of a Mack car.

Nationals Red Book-Blue book Autobiography Lists a "Mack" car for 1900 only. Lists the Mack truck as 1900 forward.

Williams always tried  to satisfy Mack Truck as a customer.  Williams made two different weights of 83  S-wrenches for Mack Truck. Mack's 83 wrench weighs 2.15 ozs. (13%) more that the same-opening sized 83A S-wrench also made by Williams for Mack.

When somebody at Mack wanted a larger-sized Mack logo stamped on the Williams 79S, Williams obliged. Keeping an important customer satisfied no doubt contributed to the longevity of the Williams wrench business.
