Title: Need some help ID'ing this hammer...
Post by: flashpuppy on January 24, 2012, 10:34:12 PM
Howdy guys!  Lot's of familiar names here, hope you don't mind me barging in.

My father got this hammer over 30 years ago.  A contractor left it behind and he picked it up.  When he retired last year, he took it with.  He has never rehandled it and uses it all the time.  I would love to figure out what it is and get him another.  I can't find any identification on it..  Any help guys?

Dustin,

Thanks for the link.  That sent me down a good road since that had a name on it.  Don't how I couldn't find that link as I spent a fair amount of time on eBay looking for this.  I appreciate your help.

I found some more info on it as well:

Think I found what that hammer is:

http://shop.roseantiquetools.net/8206-Bell-System-hammer-8206.htm

These were made for the Bell phone company probably produced by Utica Tools from New York. This model is reffered to as a lineman's drilling hammer. The bigger end was used to pound star drills into concrete walls to set lead anchors. The smaller end was used for "tacking" cross bolts up on phone poles or attaching phone lines to joists under houses.

And now you know!
