I have started a new inventory of tools .I pick up the tool research the no. put on a new tag and record location. if I find a tool without a tag i try to find the info I have in the computer if I can't find it I put a new tag with a new number. When I get done it will be easy to find each piece and i can throw out the old inventory . yes I said when i get done.Which may be this year or next it looks like i have well over 1000 pieces just a fast count .so I may be selling off some in the future bob w.

Is this a paper or electronic inventory. Sounds like you have amassed a collectors dream!
-
I have pictures and an information sheet on each of them. but it did get away ftom me when I was buying and selling heavy the last year or so bob w.

AS a Jet Mech in the Navy, we kept a running inventory of our tools. There was a plexiglass board mounted in the top of your toolbox with a string and grease pencil, The board had all the tools listed that you had in the box. When you removed a tool, you put a check mark by that tool name on the board with the grease pencil. When you put the tool back in the box, you erased the check mark. That was insurance against leaving a tool in the engine . If the engines quit you couldn't park the bird on a cloud and call for a tow.
It's a shame I didn't keep it up. One at a time as you get them is not bad, but starting now is a big job.

You have my sympathy;inventoring tools is right up there with root canal surgery. I'm trying my hand at it too. Find it pretty boring I'm up to about 500 and climbing. Hope to finish up this winter so I can get back to chasing new candidates for my walls. I'd also like to have computer records of auction price realized lists I have in paper form but don't believe I'll tackle that this year.

yesterday i was in the garage and decided to open some foot lockers that have not been opened for over a year. the first one was marked wrenches old doe's, older single open end , machine wrenches , small, medium and large the locker had twenty cardboard trays in it and average 12 wrenches in each tray . I looked and shut it quick and thought I will come back later. I then opened another locker,,,,,, hand drills piled up maybe 50 or 60 pcs, again i closed the top. the next locker was full of braces and a box of bits. there are two more lockers left so i came back to the house and turned on the western channel and watched a movie. This inventory is tiresome just looking wore me out LOL bob w, ps I am looking for some volinteers to help. any takers ?

hand drills got a real problem, i am missing a foot locker with 18 hand drills . as close as i can remember i had some stuff piled on top of the locker that the junk man was supposed to pick up.I was at therapy when he picked up and the wife said that pile there and he did his job .Oh well thats less to count
forged wrenches doe, combo, dbe total 85
now comes the fun BRACES and mic. stuff that does not fit in the categories

The junk man is probably doing what we do...chuckling and saying "Look at the perfectly good hand drills some nut threw away..."
Ah,well, they will be at next years flea market for you to buy over again .....
