Just picked up this massive 36 inch long, 5 and a half pound Plomb wrench. I believe after the word plomb is an 8H stamped into it. Can anyone help me track this big beastie down? Obviously a special use wrench, and I'd love to know if it's for steam fittings, railroad, wood mill, military use? Was it part of a set?

Nice find... that will have the Plvmbers in a tizzy for sure.

The date is 1938 but it doesn’t seem to appear in the ‘38 catalog. Probably special made particularly if it doesn’t have a part number.

Was there a shipyard near you? Out where I live anything oversize was nearly always railroad equipment.

No ports near me, Portland to the north and San Francisco to the south, but rail you can find just about anywhere in this country. We did have a large WW2 Army Base near by, Camp White, could be a tank tool? Portable bridge tool? 36 inches long for only a 1 inch bolt is just odd, with no signs of hammer marks or a cheater bar being used.
