Title: Adze...?
Post by: Navaja on December 13, 2023, 08:56:21 PM

An old adze I think?  But what a weird shape. Stamped K.S.    Anyone any ideas?

Handle hole doesn't seem too heavy duty.  Could it be to break up klinkers in a coal furnace or steam engine?

Good observation about the hole. An adz or like tool would have an square or oval hole. Looks like the pol end has seen some significant work aginst a hard surface or steel tool.

    Thanks for the replies.
I should have said in my post I'm in southern Spain, it's not uncommon for older tools here to have slip through round handles.
I pick up tools from all over so no saying where this is from but likely Spain, Portugal or France.
More on just the off chance someone recognised the shape as it's very unusual, also being cast or drop forged too made me think it has some very specific purpose..

It could simply be a small "grub hoe" for agriculture, who knows, thought the hammer makes me think wooden boats.... I've just never seen one like it.
