Title: Stanley transitional plane with steel bottom
Post by: Northwoods on April 10, 2021, 05:44:27 PM
I have seen two of these and got one yesterday.
Anyone know anything about these?
It has an Edgewood blade.  Can't find info on that either.

Is is a regular bench-size/use plane, but with a steel bottom?  Probably added, if so.

The wooden body is 15" by 2 1/2"--like a No. 26 or 27.
The mark is poorly done and no No. is visible.
The steel plate is perfectly fitted to the body with a 1/4" upturn lip at the front to prevent gouging and scraping.
Held in place by 16 evenly-spaced countersunk screws.
This--and the other one I saw a few weeks back--are clearly factory done.
Patrick makes no mention of them.

I know this is an old thread but...I found a plane today exactly as the OP described. Metal bottom with a fit so precise that it seems to be a factory made plane?

Same counter sunk screw pattern and up turned edge recessed into the front of the plane body.

So that makes 4 LOL!
