Title: Snazzy brace but odd name and origin
Post by: skipskip on December 27, 2020, 05:31:28 PM
This one is nicer than most bit braces, good wood , bright plating and fancy chuck.

Sold buy Montgomery Wards labeled "Power Kraft"

also labeled "Made in England"

Stanley made some tools in England, but this doesn't seem similar to any Stanley that I have seen.

Any info?

Thanks

I am going to guess it is an Eclipse brace.  I have nothing to back that up on beyond some obscure mental databank recollection from the thousands of braces I have owned.

I used to get them in huge Donnelly flat lots, weed through them for the good ones, and sell the rest at the flea market for 1.00 to 3.00 each.  I quit buying them when flea market customers quit buying the lower end tools.

Many more braces out there than people that want them.

Ive not laid eyes on an Eclipse brace before but that one looks quite similar to a Skinner who was also in Sheffield.

"Power Craft" ... isn't that Montgomery Yard tool logo?  Maybe made in England , because no source in the US for M-W?

No source or a lower contract bid.

The great majority of my Powr-Kraft collection is made up tools from US manufacturers including Indestro, Wright, Barcalo, Thorsen and others. I don’t have a Brace but my Auger bits are made in USA.

...I don’t have a Brace...
Then why do you have auger bits?

Maybe I should rephrase that. I don’t have a Powr-Kraft brace.

Hello, Don. Nice groups of woodworking tolls. The cloth? canvas?rolls, are they Bell System, or military? Thanks, Lou

Lou, those rolls are unmarked. I have a Bell System number drill roll. I also recently put together a WW2 military Irwin roll to go with my Korean era roll which was a garage sale find.
