Title: Slide lock pipe wrench

I have this small ( 4 1/2" ) pipe wrench that I don't know who made it. No marks at all on it.
I call it a slide lock wrench, but that may be wrong.

It is very cool from the chin up, but I gotta say that the handles leave a lot to be desired.

-- Pat. # 521,130 is the REX from AUBURN, NY.  While the small one "papaw" has is roughly similar in exterior appearance, the "hold adjustment" action is different. S#716 is the REX -- known examples are clearly marked.  There are other examples of the wrench papaw has -- none are marked & no maker has been identified as far as I know.  An 1897 item about the formation of the Auburn Rex Wrench Co. was reprinted on pg. 15 of the March 2018 MVWC Newsletter.

I have an unmarked one like the one Pawpaw pictured. I never did locate a patent or manufacture either.

Stan, I disagree in the hold action being different on the one Pawpaw and I have. They have a single tooth or pawl that engages a rack on the back side of the upper jaw main bar. I think it is a miniature Rex style that may have been made more recent by a different manufacture.
