Box lot item, had a small amount of black paint as well as rust on it before I cleaned it.

Hello, Coolford. I am going to say Hog Ring Pliers, possibly made by Heller Bros.? Regards, Lou

I think they’re tire chain pliers. Look like the ones that "Weed" made.

I was thinking that they might be tire chain pliers. Thanks!

They do not look like Weed brand pliers. I believe that pattern was made by McKaig-Hatch for Weed type tire chains.
The three main makes that I see for the Weed tire chains are Weed, McKaig-Hatch, and St. Pierre, in that order from most common to least common.

Hello, Mike. Thanks for the info. Looking at them again, I see that the gap in the jaws is too big for a hog ring!! Regards, Lou

Looks like a blasting cap crimper.

Henri

Henri---you may be on to something, looking behind the head between the handles that part would have nothing to do with chains.

I did not meant that I thought that they were McKaig-Hatch, I meant that I knew they were McKaig-Hatch. The patent number is 1698474; January 8, 1929. The part behind the jaws is for closing the links.

Thanks wvtools, I will put it in my plier collection now.

I updated the DATAMP entry for the patent to change the tool type to pliers : chain . Back when I did the entry for that patent, the "pliers" category had not had sub-types added. I need to review all those pliers patents I did years ago & update the "type" if appropriate.
