Recently my friend Dave found these. He gave them to me for what he had in them (he's one of the best tool pickers I know.)
I was wondering if they have a particular use - all 8 point except for 1 that is a 7/8"x1-1/8" rectangle.
My guess is some kind of heavy machinery? But specific kit or for general use I can't guess.
Thoughts?

I would assume plug sockets for earth moving / mining machines. I have a few 8 point sockets in 3/4" drive and have yet to use them.

I remember years ago we got a job to dismantle a old gas station. The building was all angle iron and glass. We had to borrow a set of 8 point sockets to take down the building. All the hardware used were square nuts and bolts. I have several sets and several drive sizes of 8 point sockets. The only time I use them is for removing oil drain plugs on my old gas engines.

Papadan worked on big equipment back in the day. When he wanders thru he may be able to provide some insight on how they are used.
