Title: PH-BZ spring wire ?
Post by: JoeCB on November 27, 2018, 10:41:20 PM
This isn't exactly "tools" but there is so much knowledge here that I'll ask …. I need a few feet of 0.100 Phosphor- Bronze spring wire. I need to wind a compression spring for an old engine magneto governor. McMaster only go to to 0.080. I can't find a consumer friendly source for a short piece .. 4 to 5 feet, more than enough. Any leads will be appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Joe B

Not sure about ph/bz wire but the old radio guys have been winding coils for years. The big problem is finding small amount, all the new stuff is made on large rolls. Old radio guys = people who collect and restore old radios.  Come to think of it you might try oldengine.com and smokestack.com might be some one on there with extra wire. Going to google ph/bz wire that sounds more like a brazing rod material than coil wire???

This answers a question I've had since staring my Plierench collection.  What type of wire do you use to make springs with the wire bending jaw? Now I know!
