Here is the beginning of my application to join PHARTS. LOML remembers putting a box full in the new shed.....2 years ago. I'll get them out as soon as I can. For starts I have a 6-7/8" Hercules made is USA
My little hatchet is 9" long, marked DGM Nr 5664-87 on one side and GERMANY on the other side.
This 4 pc set was given to me by a friend, they are in brand new condition. The only marking is on the next to largest one and say IRWIN-USA
I'll post the rest of my application ASAP. Papadan

Ooo, Ooo, Ooo! I made it. I'm an ophicial old PHARTS member. I want to thank the academy, my better half, and Papaw for this honor! ;-)
-
Hello, Papadan. Nice tools, first hatchet I have seen!!! Regards, Lou
-
Thanks Lou. I have been doing some carving as of late and use this little hatchet to remove larger pieces of wood instead of a chisel or knife. When I find the box, I have one or 2 more of these little hatchets.

I wonder if I might qualify? Here are my credentials. My collection of wartime ink marked Irwin screwdrivers followed by some handle stamped Tobrins

Very nice collections. I see very few of these and they are always overpriced in my opinion.
-
WW2 Ink marked Irwin screwdrivers, particularly the 11” version are very rare and greatly prized by Jeep and other WW2 collectors. They will always be expensive. Here is a catalog page the old PHARTS may like to see.

It is barely possible for this old PHART to have a tool older than himself. Here is the proof.

Welcome to the club D42Jeep, you are an old PHARTS now.
-
That’s what my wife says too, but she spells it differently. Thanks!

Don't know what the intention of PHARTS exactly is.
Apparently has to do with vintage screwdrivers with riveted wooden handles.
Own a few including four IRWIN-USofA GOV. STOCK # 41-S-1076.
WW2 surplus, bought nearly forty years ago at the Amsterdam flea market.
Regards
Henri

Originally it was for those of us who collected H D Smith Perfect Handle tools and perhaps rebuilt them or in general admired them. Now I say it can be anyone who collects and admires perfect handle style tools such as H D Smith, Irwin, and the German made ones seen often.

After much research by WW2 tool collectors, it has been determined that the Federal Stock Number
41-S-1076 marked screwdrivers are actually Korean War vintage, in case you're interested. The ink marked Irwin perfect handle drivers have been clearly seen in several WW2 pictures.
-Don
-
Don, thanks for your explanation about the marking 41-S-1076.
In recent years, I have not gone into that matter any more.
So now it is clear that they are after WW2. So be it.
I'll keep them anyway.

Henri

Even 40 years ago that was a nice day at the flea market! Nice collection Henri!

I am honored to be a member of PHARTS.
Besides the Irwin's, I have a 10" Ryan, marked RYAN TOOLS, made by the J.J.Ryan Tool Company, Southington, Conn.
Still looking for German ones.

Hello, And here is my stash of H D Smith Perfect Handle Tools!! I have more of the Perfect Handle style screwdrivers ( not H D Smith, and far from perfect), around here, will post pics when I find them. Regards, lou

But, if you find them, you'll be a member of the PGAWFV (Perfekter Griff Anerkennung Wiederherstellung und Folter Verein, as best the online translator can do for me; and I recognize that, in proper German, the word order might differ from English), which probably isn't a good pun even in German.

Here is a little German one.
-Don

Have not gotten into the shed yet, but I found a picture of a few of my other pieces.
-
Neat pic. The screwdriver on the right is really neat.

It is neat, Lou has one just like it pictured above, opened.
-
Does this one count?
I feel like a raw recruit next to all of you.
-
It definitly counts, just don't know that it is enough for membership. ;-(

Here is a little German one.
-Don
Don, thanks for the picture.
Remember seeing a couple in very bad condition.
I keep searching.

My pleasure, Henri. I took a picture of my perfect handle Whitman & Barnes monkey wrenches today.
-Don

Nice wrenches, Don.
I bought these years ago from an Army surplus dealer in Amsterdam.

Henri,
Nice collection. The handle on your Whitman & Barnes looks like new. I think that I have a similar Trimo.
-Don
-
Don, I remember the B & W wrench was still in conservation grease when I bought it.

Always nice to find brand new old tools, I love cosmolene! ;-)
-
I’m a big fan of cosmoline too. I have a few items that I refuse to clean it off of. Here is a perfect handle Trimo.

Got this screwdriver from a friend who does house clearances.
No makers mark and no rivets. Length 5¾".
German ?

Hard to tell by the picture, but is the end a cap that screws on? There are German ones almost exactly like H D Smith, ones that have a hex shaft, and ones similar to yours. Here is one on Ebay that looks like yours. Another question- Is the wood held on with rivets, or is it one piece and end on by the end cap ?
-
Mine is equal to the one on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-WOOD-INLAY-HANDLE-FLAT-BLADE-ANTIQUE-SCREWDRIVER-5-5-/232981122955?oid=332787531838
The head is not a screwed-on cap, the metal is one piece.
The two pieces of wood are not held by rivets, but by means of protrusions, I think.

Here are a couple of recent finds that I thought the other PHARTS might like to see. The first came from an eBay seller in Canada and will go into my WW2 GMTK since it is a perfect “41-S-1385 Extra Heavy Duty Screwdriver 5" Blade”
The second is a true original HD Smith tiny screwdriver I found in the wild last weekend.
