Looking for an alligator combination wrench produced by my wife's great grandfather in 1892-3. He was a machinist and would have, probably, made and sold these himself. He was in Kingston, NY.
The specs are on the attached ad that was placed in the Kingston Daily Freeman recently.

I have a lot of alligators, but haven't seen one of those.

Do you have the patent number?
-
Lewis Hurd patent looks close to this but he was from Durango CO.
Was his design patented?

Patent 474741 patented May 10, 1892
Good luck with your hunt.

Welcome to Tool Talk. Hope you find yourself one (or more) of those.

Yes, the patent is 502,525 dated Aug 1, 1893.

Interesting, Shockley missed this one in his book but it is in DATAMP. Maybe because it was primarily listed as a combination tool rather than a wrench.

I'll reach out to Bob. He collects multi tools and combo tools. Mostly pliers ones, but others as well.

It is in DATAMP because it is one I ran across during my "look at every patent starting from #1 " project-- currently stalled at mid-1900.
