Title: Big Simonsen Chicago Tool Box from Train Engineer
Post by: UncleBill on October 07, 2018, 06:02:57 PM
I was at a yard sale this weekend when my eye picked up on this orange metal box sitting in the back of the garage.  What's that? - "Just an old tool box" she replied.  I asked if she wouldn't mind if I took a quick look at it and then I told her if she ever wanted to sell it just call me.  She said that if she ever wanted to sell it she would want $100. Sold!

$100 is the most I spent for an older tool box but it screamed at me to take it.  Thinking about it I figured it would actually look nice as an accent piece in my house so I cleaned her up, gave it a good wax, shine, and voilĂ  put her in the house.  My wife said why don't you make a bar out of it.  That's good thinking.  So there she is from the trains of California to a mini bar in my house.  $100 well spent!

Did a little research and looks like this is from the 1950's.

Certainly does have a lot of character with the formed shape top and backsplash.  That would have been hard for me to walk away from.  Never heard of Simonsen.

The past, I have, but find the answer alone about this. This has been known.

UncleBill, I really like the lamp you put together. I complements that Bar/Box greatly.
