Hello, Ric. It is most likely a Hand Saw Jointer, missing the file. It is used to level uneven saw teeth, prior to sharpening. I have seen the Disston cousins before:-). Yours looks like a good one. Regards, Lou

I agree with Lou, Tool for jointing saws but missing the file which should be easy to replace and, yes, it does look like a good one in good condition. I have several but I doubt any are in as good condition as yours. Looks like a really good find.

there are a million of those in all shapes and sizes, all same purpose, all cool!  … let's not talk about saw sets
