Title: Nice Little Preston Plane Or Marking Guage ?
Post by: rustyric on August 28, 2018, 05:19:18 PM
Here is my latest find by Preston of Birmingham. Is it a strange plane or a marking guage ?

Hello, Rustyric. Very nice find!!  I believe what you have is a Preston 1393S Patent Reeder. From Tony Murlands Antique Tool Value Guide. Regards, Lou

I believe it's similar in function to the Stanley beading tool, described here: http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan9.htm#num66 (http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan9.htm#num66), and its modern version by Lee Valley, here: http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=73766&cat=1,230,41182 (http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=73766&cat=1,230,41182).

If it's taking up space in your shop, I know where it could find a good home
