This poor old forge has been sitting a long time, so need some room time to get it ready to go. I used a 50/50 mix of atf and acetone, it has worked well! got all the nuts and bolts loose and reused them!!!
Now to get the belt to look like a belt again been sitting 20+ years in a box. Also will line the fire pot with a mix of ground kitty litter and mortar. That has worked for 30+ years in another Champion forge.

claying the pot, this protects the firepot "cast iron" from flux/borax and water cooling the firepot down too fast or unevenly. So as you can tell a little too much water so shrink cracks, so will need to coat with a fine filler, more kitty litter and mortar.
The Canedy Otto 22" is coming along too just need to mount new blower tee then the fun begins.

Ahh, first fire. How noisy is the pump handle mechanism? Seems like the iron bolts on stuff that old don't rust up like good steel ones do.

makes a little ruuuuump on the down stroke, then a clink clink clink as the clutch allows the gear to return. Yes iron breaks loose with the atf/acetone easier!I thought I had a water pump cylinder that was rusted solid. I've used heat to get them apart, but could not find it. Now to make a small heat sheild to protect the wooden handle, singed it a little today.

Reason I asked about the noise, first blacksmith hammer-in I attended, there were 8 of those in use, was a trifle deafening. We also found out lighting fifteen coal forges in a semi open barn was a bad idea.

if you don't get them burning right away...wad of paper, some small twigs which we have so many anyway, coal is around the pile and as the twigs burn push the coal into that fire. Seems to work for me. Now keeping a hand pump fire even as a electric blower?
Nope not happening here! Heck I even had the wife pumping the handle, she was cutting back a bush next to the shed and commenting on the smoke and flames. She stopped complaining about the smoke!
We were heating up old water hand pump foot valves and cylinders to get them apart. Oh there was one short burst of cuss words when a small hot spark jumped from the pot inconveniently or very appropriately down her shirt. Of course that was my fault, missed seeing it but saw the after dance.
Btw added a small shield to the fire pot to protect the wooden handle, that will keep the handle cool. pic from the C-O #8 catalog, pretty sure this is this forge.
