Title: Giving new life to old ratchets
Post by: Nolatoolguy on May 03, 2018, 07:33:19 PM
I know some of us have Sk round head ratchets. Same design for I don’t know how many years. Absolutely great ratchets in my opinion. I have some older then me that I rely on.

If you don’t follow Sk they came out with a new fine tooth mechanism a little while back. I was hesitant to get it but I gave it a try recently. I put the new mechanism in my vintage roto head ratchet an it makes a big difference. The finer swing arc makes it easier, in tight spots. I also just ordered one for my 1/4 ratchet.

I have always liked S&K round head ratchets. The only problem with them is they grow legs and walk away. Someone at work years ago gave me a S&K Roto head ratchet that had bad teeth on the pawls. I tossed it in the dumpster at work. Oppps. But my favorite ratchets are the made forever Proto pear head models.

It sounds like a nice improvement that SK came up with - and I've read several great reviews - but I'm in the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" crowd. My SK roundheads have proven so great I see no reason to try and "improve" them.
I hope I don't come across as a negative Nellie.

Now, if they keep coming out with newer design ratchets I'd be all up for that.
