Title: Tool boxes
Post by: t115145 on April 24, 2018, 06:08:36 PM
How about a thread for old metal tool boxes?  I'm hunting for a Plomb myself.

Go ahead and start one, or place a message in the "Missing Link " forum.

Are we talking about small boxes, hand carry boxes, or cabinets?  I'll post these because they're right here at work.  I just painted this C-man box last week.  My co-worker/boss gave it to me because he likes plastic boxes (he's young - forgive him) and I needed a decent road box that had a tray that will fit in my tool cab.

The tray fits nicely in my top box...

This one's next to paint... it's a nice heavy box that I like the size and shape but the tray is too small for the above use.  Master Mechanic Professional TT819...

Very nice boxes. I like those silver Craftsman carry boxes. I buy every cheap one in good shape I can find. I recently picked up a Kennedy style machinists tool box marked JC Penny. Last year I scored a Par X box by Snap -On. A tool box only forum would be neat. I just passed on a Craftsman top chest at the Habitat store. They $15.99 for it, but it looked like it has sat at the bottom of a lake for several years. I went in today and it was gone.

Hey, everybody needs a good toolbox, and at least the Creature won't have to age his new toolbox so it doesn't look out of place in his shop.

Whoever made that Creature suit should have gotten a award. Great stuff for the time.

How about this, how many metal carry boxes are lurking in the shops/garages/mancaves of the group?   I'll confess to hoarding about 23.  Let's hear it.

Those two with the imitation wood grain wood framed, with tin cladding.  Carpenters carry boxes, the wood is 1/4 inch plywood it appears.   Found them in different spots, the tall one looks to never have been used, the other has seen light use.  No company name, stamps or numbers to be seen.   I wouldn't mind knowing the builder.

I sure don't have as many as you, had a look around today and I came up with 7. I agree with you regarding the appearance of those wood grain boxes, they are very nice.

Here are another six, plus a plastic one I was gifted,  trying to remember where I put the others.    Best deal I ever got was a rough little Craftsman box, with welded on hasp,  with over half a set of wrenches and sockets, at a garage sale for $10.  It was more of a : we are moving and this stuff isn't going with us type of sale.  Seems like a lot of the time I would get to garage sales late, and folks would see me looking at something, and holler out:  If you want that, five bucks takes it home.  At a swap meet, bought an interesting home made tin box from the guy next to me.  As he was loading up, he carried the twin to the box I bought and said:  Take it with you, I just don't have storage space.  Can you say no?

More, green no name,  Kennedy, and a poor PARK, looks like it got sprayed with some kind of glue, no rust though.

I bought this at the corner flea market in Elbridge last Saturday.  Not sure what to do with it, don't know if it has collector value.  The box contains a Husky breaker H4598 with a bar that fits the hole in the handle.  The bar has a ball pressed in as a stop.  8 point sockets 3/8, 5/16, 1/4.  6 point sockets 7/16, 3/8, 11/32, 1/4.
