Title: Disston Handy Saw
Post by: lptools on April 09, 2018, 12:53:04 PM
Hello, After looking at Henri's saw, I decided to look at what I might have here. I didn't get very far when I spotted this one, Disston Handy Saw, 7 Pt. Rip Blade, 20" long. The blade is removable, one of a set of blades that sold as a kit. It is also stamped on the handle ORD. DEPT, and the same thing is etched into the blade. Regards, Lou

Or ordnance, maybe a general purpose maintenance saw for the ammo dump.

Or, yeah, you might be right: for cutting a fine line in the administration of ordinances.

Hello, Guys . I found a brief reference to this being a WW11 era saw, and the stamp would be for Ordnance Department. Here is the link to the article.      http://swingleydev.com/ot/get/116593/thread/

Lou, very nice Disston saw.
Interesting for a militaria collector like me.
Have a few items with "Ordnance Dept." on it,
like these brass tire pressure gauge.

Regards,
Henri
