Title: Estate sale buy
Post by: Papaw on April 08, 2018, 07:36:56 PM
I don't see a lot of tools I want to buy at estate sales, and they often have high prices, but this one was a little different. I stopped there yesterday and looked at tool boxes and a parts washer. The J C Penny box that was for sale  had some Indestro sockets in it, but the price was too high.
Came back this afternoon and talked him down on the box ( He said it is "vintage" and worth a lot of $! ). I didn't mention the Indestro hex sockets and 1/2" drive Indestro sockets were worth more than the box.
As for the parts washer, it was a Northern Tool 20 gallon model that yesterday he wanted $200 for. Today it was $100 and the same price as the same Chinese washer at Harbor Freight and Northern Tool. Offered $70 to see what they would say and they wouldn't come down so it stayed there.
Indestro 1/2" drive sockets- 1/2 to 1" with a 13/16" spark plug socket and a 5" extension.

Indestro hex sockets from 1/4 to 7/16 with a spiral socket

Indestro hex sockets from 1/4 to 7/16 look like marked Japan, in a small open case and a hex wrench with a detent included

Indestro #922 double offset DBE 1/2 and 9/16

1/2" Hex Drive socket set in a case with a hex key with detent - 7/16 to 7/8

A Cheney claw hammer

A Crescent LS 75  1/2" drive ratchet marked JAPAN K

Chinese Combo wrench set 3/8" to 5/8" in a carrier

Two Nicholson rasps

Stanley 50' tape

Two Promark made in Taiwan adjustable 6" AND 8"

One Bluegrass Clutch Head screwdriver # T2-BG CL5 1/4" PT

I like the bent tip needlenose pliers.  What brand are they?  Those are extremely handy in certain situations.

No brand on them. The tips are bent a little bit.

The Cheney hammer is marked Cheney Tool *** Little Falls N. Y.

6 Inch slip joint pliers with screwdriver end and 6 inch dikes with unusual grooves on the jaws and a slot in the cutting edges. Neither have makers marks.

The grooves in the side cutters are probably for stripping the insulation.

The makers mark on the dikes would be on the other side.  I have seen Bell System ones with the stripping grooves.  Sometimes there is the Utica triangles logo on the inside of the handles.
