Title: Littlestown Vise question
Post by: swervncarz on March 19, 2018, 06:45:51 PM
I picked up this little clamp on Littlestown no. 3 vise. What caught my eye is how long it is, the screw seems too long for such a small vise. It opens up to 6"! Now looking online at other Littlestown no. 3's & this one is definitely different. The other examples that I see all have a rectangular guide bar, this one is circular & looks like it  is brass. I'm wondering if this was made this way or if it was an alteration. If you look at the hole that the guide bar slides through it does not look like an alteration. Also no pipe jaws, all others that I see have them. Anyone know any Littlestown history that they can share? Thanks!

That's a first for me as well. I see a lot of Littlestown vises in my area. I'm pretty sure this company is still in business. You could send them a pic and see what happens. I would have grabbed that too.

I know nothing about Littlestown vises, but I do know a thing or two about alterations....and to me it does not look to have been altered.

I've got a somewhat different design (not Littlestown) on which the front jaw is fixed and the rear jaw moves.  Not sure it spans six inches, but it's a big opening relative to the jaw width.  Not sure what they were sold for.
