Title: Looking for Hinsdale DOE Wrenches
Post by: woodland_hank on February 26, 2018, 10:17:56 AM
I'm looking for a couple Hinsdale double open end wrenches to complete a set.  It's a 6 wrench set and I have #3 and #4.  I'm looking for #1, #2, #5 and the smallest one which is 1/4 x 3/8.  Not sure if that one is #0 or how they designate it.  These wrenches are the Chrome Vanadium Steel ones with the big logos.  Looks like this:

I have the 5-piece set.  Don't know about a small small one.
They are generally available on the bay.

Here is what AA says:  "Six models were available, with openings ranging from 1/4 to 1 inch, although the smallest 1/4x3/8 wrench is somewhat rare."
They go on to Picture # 1 through 5.  Their #1 is 7/16 by 1/2. And their #5 is 7/8 by 15/16.
Very curious.
This does not account for their 1/4 orrrrr their 1".
Any thoughts?

There were 6 wrenches 0-5
1/4x3/8,  7/16x1/2,  9/16x19/32,  5/8x11/16,  3/4x25/32,  7/8x15/16

there were 3 different sets available
a 6pc set 0-5
and 2 5pc sets   0-4 and 1-5

So, there was no 1" wrench. And the Zero wrench appeared in two of the three sets-- but is uncommon.
Looks like I have some looking to do.

I only ever found one, the 3 by the list.  Love that big proud logo.

Only five more for me!   Lol.

I want to make some smaller wrench displays to compliment the big Williams display I recently made.  I've had these Hinsdale wrenches sitting around in a drawer (with numerous others) for a couple decades.  Time to show them off.  I'm on a kick to finish up stalled out projects from years past.  In the last 2 years I've accomplished a fair amount and am pleased with myself.  It feels good to get things done.

"compliment the big Williams display"

If they come out as sweet as that one please make sure you include a photo for us to drool over.   :embarrassed:

The displays I have in mind will be very similar to the Williams but smaller.  I'm planning to cut vinyl with each brand's logo as well.  I have an old set of Craftsman DOE, a set of 1950's-60's Snap On angled DOE and the Hinsdale I'm looking for.  I might supplement with some other tools.  Somewhere on here I saw a collection of brace bits and a couple braces.  I have a bunch of my grandfather's bits that might make a nice display similar to that.

I have so many tools that I enjoy looking at.  I have my go-to standard tools that I use on a regular basis, but the rest are simply for display.  In the next 2 years I will be upgrading to a bigger house and will likely have a man-cave/rec room that will benefit from some wall hangings.

Well, I've resorted to ebay for the remaining wrenches.  I will have #'s 1-5 after they ship.  Anybody have a lead on the elusive #0 wrench?

Skip,

I received the wrench yesterday in the mail.  Thank you so much!  Papaw, thank you for hosting this site.  I've received so much help with my wrenching hobby from the great people here on Tool Talk that I'm continuously impressed.  Skip, you are a cross sectional example of what Tool Talk is about.  Again, thank you!  I will be dropping a bag of dog food into the donation bin at my local Petsmart store.

Any interest in the 5 wrench board?

Hank
What are dimensions inside the border trim?
I might be interested.
Thanks, Tom

Inside the frame it's 10 5/8" wide by 10 1/4" tall to the bottom of the vinyl logo.
