Title: Happy to be here.
Post by: PDRPrescott on August 14, 2017, 02:28:15 PM
Hi,

I'm Paula from Arizona.  My late father had an extensive collection of tools, some quite old.  I am in the process of selling them, but I need to identify their name and usage.  Some are really fascinating, but I have no clue what they're used for.  One of my buyers suggested this forum and said that if you guys can't identify something, it must have come from outer space!  I'm probably going to bug you a lot. so let's get started.

What is this guy?

Thanks,
Paula

Welcome to Tool Talk!

Your first item is a regular fencing pliers. A ranch hand carried those to repair fences around the ranch.
There are stories of those being outlawed to carry in certain places during the "fence wars", because  they were a favorite tool of rustlers.

There are probably hundreds of different fence pliers.  All have similarities.  Pliers, hammer poll, wire cutter, and usually claws or a horn to remove nails or staples are usually present.
