Title: What the #+@%! are these?? But seriously, what are these??
Post by: UncleBill on July 01, 2017, 03:02:33 PM
No rhyme or reason but I do not know what these are.  They were in the same box at an estate sale with a lot of other weird cool stuff.

The first item has a small axe, hammer on other side, screwdriver, nail puller?, wire cutters and I am pretty sure it was made by J.A. Henkels cause it has the little guys stamp on one of the connector studs (if that's what its called)

The second with the square head plier thing has no markings.  I don't know what those knob are used for at the end.  The teeth are tiny and looks like there might be gold smooshed in them. See picture.

So what do you think??????

the darker one looks like a "puller" aka drawing pliers,  could it be marked Dixon?  used by white smiths to draw wire or strips  people who make jewelry use them also.

Thanks.  After looking on the net for jewelry pliers I noticed a jewelers hand saw and I also picked that up at the sale near the bunch of odd tools including the items in the pictures.  So they probably did work on some type of jewelry.  Now I need to investigate the other odd stuff.

My guess is the other tool is just a general-purpose combination tool, not intended for any specific trade. For some reason German companies in particular produced dozens (and dozens!) of different style hammer-hatchet-plier-screwdriver-nail puller combo tools. I have quite a few myself, although I must admit to never having seen that Henkels one before.

Your right.. Looks like the Henckels is a tool that seems to be made by various companies all having the same traits.  I looked up Vintage German Tool and it brought up 3 made by different makers but none by Henckels... Thanks for the input.

I'd guess the 2nd one is some sort of Farrier's multi-tool... Looks like hoof nippers, hammer, etc in one..

The hatchet tool is a bit different than the run-of-the-mill German hatchet tool with its large circular nippers.  These tools are sold on eBay Germany as "Springmeister" pliers - translated - Demolition Expert pliers.  It may be that several companies made them for war use (one seller said his pair was used in WWI).
But it's fairly certain that after WWII they were made as an export item.  Most likely if they are chrome plated they were for export.

On first glance almost looks like some specialized old blacksmith's tool...
