Title: Looking for info on an Emmert Patternmaker's Vise
Post by: Twilight Fenrir on June 07, 2017, 05:23:28 PM
I apologize in advance, I hate "What's it worth" threads, but this one seems to defy my research a bit, and I just don't know...

There seems to be some pretty wide variance of pricing on eBay, the average seems to be about $400, while some are posted in excess of $1,000. And I'm not sure wherein the difference lies.

I know that this is missing the undercabinet mount for the swivel bracket, and that the arm with the slot in it has been replaced with a solid bar, but otherwise it appears to be complete? and I can fabricate new parts in those two instances. The threads are in good shape, and while most of it is siezed right now, I'm confident some oil and a little work will get it moving good as new.

The jaws measure 18" x about 7.5", and it has a brass plaque on it that indicates it is from the US Navy.

Could someone please enlighten me on this one? Thanks.

Not sure I can help much but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I have watched these on and off over the years and what little I have picked up is like you the prices vary but usually they seem to be in the $600-$800 range. That being said I think there are different sizes and different styles. Like everything else condition and being complete has a lot to due with selling price. I think Patrick Leach sells a tilting bracket for one style of these. I guess Google might be your friend on this one unless somebody know a site that has info on these. Good luck in the restoration.

I can't help much with the value, but the link below may be of interest.

Wire wheels/cups, and then I treated every part with boiled linseed oil for the finish.

I couldn't get into all the tight corners... I'm considering getting a little cup brush for my dremel and trying that... But I really like how it looks, so I guess I'll jist have to see how much it bothers me :ap
