Title: Odd hammer

The odd hammer I got yesterday is smith made and reminds me of a bricklayers hammer.  Maybe so, maybe no.  Does anybody have a better idea of what this hammer did for a living?

Chipping hammer. Somebody had a boat.
It was metal and they had to pick rust so they could paint it

I think it "was" a french pattern locksmith's (cross pein) hammer, before the pein was adjusted! It is on the handle the wrong way and has been well abused! French pattern locksmiths hammers were made long after locksmith's stopped forging locks! In fact they are still made see Centaur Forge or Pieh tool web sites. They were usualy short and swat but the lighter ones were longer.

Clock makers was one of my first impressions, too.  But I think not.  The face end is way longer than the one I have, and those I've seen,  and there is a slight curve, a dome sort of, in the head as it is now hafted.  But it does have that look.
