What a monster!

It's a blacksmith made specialty tool, a kind of cross between a top swage and a flatter.  Only those who used the thing could tell you exactly what it was for, probably.  It was held in place on the work, and struck by a second man.

Probably used for shaping heavy hot stuff like boiler smokeboxes.
