Title: Habitat Restore finds.
Post by: EVILDR235 on December 13, 2016, 11:52:15 PM
So i went back to the Habitat store again because i did not find much this morning there. This afternoon they had put out some fresh tools that were mostly C-man sockets.. Here is a list of the following items i got,

A  pint of black Rust-Oleum enamel oil based.
7  Snap-On sockets.
1  Snap-On combo 9/16 wrench.
A  C-man 1/2 inch universal.
A  S&K 1/4 inch universal.
A  C-man BE 12 point 11/32 socket in 1/4 inch drive.
Some misc. C-man and Proto sockets.
A  package of 6-32 machine screws and nuts.
A  C-man 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapter.

Not a huge bunch of stuff, but all good stuff. I have found over the years that this time of the year you have lots of people are donating stuff for tax reasons. Also the pawn shops get in lots of stuff. Then total today was $14.52 including tax. I did pick up a interesting wrench yesterday. A Viking sprinkler wrench that is made of steel. That's All Folks.

Nice!  Our Restore in Syracuse is small and in a tough neighborhood just off downtown.  But the last time I went I got a pair of chrome Blackhawk snap ring pliers for 50 cents.  I kept them and sold my Vacuum Grip pair for $20 on eBay.

Our Habitat store here is in a building that use to be a Chevrolet dealership / service center that was owned by football player Kurt Warner. The store covers about a half acre. Lots of tools, building supplies, paint and hardware. I guess the person that priced these Snap-On tools knew nothing about them. Maybe once a month i find a S O tool, but 8 in one day was a hoot. The place is only 4 blocks from my house which is good also.

Being retired i have lots of time, money not so much. Over in Portland we have a good flea market that i have gotten some good stuff at. Lots of estate sales even in the winter. There use to be a lot more flea markets, but most have shut down and the ones still going have mostly import tools and beef jerky. I have also bought lots of stuff off of Craig's list. Once and a while i will buy something from a pawnshop, but their prices are too expensive most of the time. My other hobby is small old cast iron gas engines.

I have a habit of going to my local Habitat way too much (well, according to SWMBO)...   and have lately volunteered there some while on vacation.   they get tons of new stuff in from various sources and a lot of used/homeowner stuff; some of which is ok, and some of which is dumpster material.   I have a feeling a lot of my stuff will end up there some day.

I always think about my stuff when i go to estate sales. Some day all my stuff will be going to someone else.

We had a Habitat store here for a while, but I never found anything I wanted or needed. It closed a couple of years ago. Must be one in Houston, but I am not driving there much anymore.

Our habitat gets lots of tools, but the good ones go fast. last year they had a pallet full of new Ridgid pipe wrenches.  I got a 24 inch one for $15.00. I may never use it, but if i need it i got one and i can resell it some day and get my money back. I check in the store at least 2 times a day. I love when they wheel out a cart loaded with fresh items. It's 9.00 am and i need to call them to see if they are gonna be open today. We got several inches of snow yesterday and they closed early.

There is one in Stafford. Never seen anything worth buying, so I rarely go.

Mine's in the next (larger) town over.  I stop in if I'm in that part of town.  I've donated more than I've found, but it's a good cause.

I have, however, found some sweet stuff, like a Rockwell (Porter-Cable) 100 router from the shiny period for $15.
