The "thin" end is fairly blunt on the end or I might think it was a type of brick hammer. The flat end of the hammer is mushroom shaped, but not from wear or abuse, it looks like it was made that way. I do like the way it looks.

After looking at it, I wonder if a blacksmith made it out of a railroad spike, if that was the case, they were talented.

Looks to me like a French style cobbler's hammer.

I did a google search on "French style cobbler hammer" and it sure looks like them.

Years ago an old shoemaker told me that on the better quality of cobblers hammers the face was not parallel to the handle and that does looks like that"s the case with this one.
