Title: Vaders & Co snips
Post by: jimwrench on July 08, 2016, 02:19:54 PM
Got a pair of 14 in snips by Vader & Co last night. They are or were located in Wald Solingen, Germany. Snips have company name and location on one side. Other side stamped 1917 and TD VIII. Don't know if 1917 is year of manufacture but assume it is.' Can anyone decipher TD VIII or guess what they were used for ?

Seems to be a contradiction.  Pressed steel handles?  Elaborate mechanism?
For cutting barbed wire on the WWI battlefield?

Same here. Lots of barbed wire to cut through back in 1917.

Here's a remarkably similar English tool I just saw on eBay:

What does J.R.E.M stand for ? stamped on one handle. Only reference I found referred to chemical mortar battalion of US army around WWII but doubt that we would be using German made tools in WWII.

"Luke, I am your snips."

No, doesn't quite work.

I think i would call that J.R.G.M.  Only thing Google give me is James River Grounds Management.  Looks too old to be theirs...

I lived in Richmond for almost 35 years and James River Grounds Management began operations in 1989. I think we need to continue looking for our answer.

I think the first letter is not a J, but a vaguely stamped D.
What D.R.G. M. means see: http://www.toledo-bend.com/VCL/info_2/drgm.html.

 sounds logical Henri.

looking again, it sure looks like a D that is worn or had a bad stamping.

OK I agree the third letter is G after a little more buffing and the first could be a misstamped D.
Meaning we have DRGM which is the German registration which stands for Deutsches Reichgebrauchsmuster which basically means the design or function is officially registered inside all German states. Hope this puts this puppy to bed.

I think Darth Vader's sister's name is Spacein.
