Title: off topic foreign lic plates

anyone have a clue about these?

I assume Asian, but after that I'm stuck.

A wild guess it's from Hong Kong under British rule a few years ago?

Looking at this site:

yours seemed most similar to those from Japan, especially
those used by US forces in Japan, e.g. this one:

The South Korean ones also look rather similar.
