Title: Silver and Deming
Post by: thiggy on March 25, 2016, 08:41:43 AM
I just came across this listing for Silver and Deming drill bit set at Harbor Freight.  http://www.harborfreight.com/silver-and-deming-drill-bit-set-8-pc-61802.html
Is this the same Silver and Deming which made high quality blacksmith drill bits and other US made tools?  At this price, surely it is not!

no, the name of the company stuck with the style of bits,
sorta like kleenex or bandaid are common for those products
There still are American companies making drill bits, but you are not going to find them in a hf catalog.

I live in the same town as the Orig Silver and Deming, Salem Ohio. Grew up on the same street with ancestors of the families. And worked in a few of the plants where the tools were made years before I was born. The problem was S&D never put patients on their work so now we have it everywhere...Bob
